pazazu

In ancient Assyrian culture, pazuzu was a wind demon, depicted with a dog- or lion-like face, bulging eyes, a scaly body, and the wings and talons of a bird of prey.  Usually regarded as evil, pazuzu also had an apotropaic aspect, because he could frighten other dangerous demons away from people and their homes. Because of this, images of pazuzu we ofter worn as amulets.
