Gobelins

The name Gobelins is synonymous with fine French tapestries. The Gobelins were a family of dyers who established themselves in the outskirts of Paris in the 15th century. A tapestry factory was added to their dye-works in the 16th century. In the 17th century it was purchased for king Louis XIV and began producing sumptuous furnishings for the French royal residences. The factory is now run by the French Ministry of Culture. Web resource here.
