The era in Egyptian history comprising the First and Second Dynasties. It follows the Predynastic period and is conventionally dated from ca. 3000 to ca. 2686 BCE. In this period the regions of Upper Egypt (south) and Lower Egypt (north) were unified under a central government with its capital at Memphis.
