Chippendale

A term used to describe English Rococo furniture inspired by the designs illustrated in The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director by Thomas Chippendale, Sr. (1718–79). Chippendale’s book influenced furniture design in Great Britain, Europe and colonial America. Although Chippendale’s name is applied to much mid-18th-century furniture, only comparatively few pieces can be attributed with certainty to his workshop. Web resources here and here.
